Web Presence

  • Website is fully compatible with handheld devices, including smartphones.

    • Can access databases, make eReserves, and do everything else from a phone/tablet that can be done on a computer.

    • Resizes well to small devices.

    • No app, but it's not needed.

    • Nice contrast to the local public library, which uses OverDrive.

However....

  • No social media presence.

    • In article Building Library Community Through Social Media, Scott W. H. Young and Doralynn Rossman conducted a study to prove that, “while drawing on the critical theory of “digital dualism” to argue that communities built through social media do not reside in a separate “online” space, but rather are one element of a much more significant and valuable form of holistic connectedness” (p. 22).

    • By making one personalized tweet every day the libraries account gained individual followers but lost “business” followers, and overall their Twitter following increased by 275% in the course of the study.
